Enterprise systems often support multiple generations of CPUs, memory modules, storage devices, controllers, adapters, and expansion options. Compatibility can depend on platform generation, firmware, processor family, memory population rules, PCIe generation, power limits, chassis configuration, and other system-specific requirements.
Research Components by Compatibility Type
Use these sections to understand the factors that determine whether a component is suitable for a particular enterprise platform or configuration.
Processor Compatibility
Check processor generation, socket, platform support, core-count limits, TDP, firmware requirements, and single- or multi-CPU configuration considerations.
Memory Compatibility
Research DDR generation, ECC support, RDIMM, LRDIMM, memory speed, DIMM capacity, channel layout, rank limits, and supported population rules.
Drive & Storage Compatibility
Compare SAS, SATA, NVMe, U.2, U.3, drive form factors, backplane support, carrier requirements, interface speeds, and storage-controller compatibility.

A Matching Connector Does Not Always Mean Compatibility
Enterprise hardware may share physical connectors while differing in electrical requirements, firmware support, supported device generations, thermal limits, platform restrictions, or vendor-specific configuration requirements. Compatibility should be evaluated at the system level.
Verify the Complete Configuration
CPU choice can affect memory support. A GPU can change PSU and airflow requirements. NVMe storage can consume PCIe lanes. RAID controllers can require specific cables or backplanes. Compatibility should account for interactions across the complete system.
